About Pyramid Valley and Earth Smoke
Pyramid Valley is one of New Zealand’s most celebrated and prestigious biodynamic producers — founded by Mike and Claudia Weersing in Canterbury’s Waikari Valley, known for producing wines of extraordinary purity, complexity and distinctive biodynamic character. Earth Smoke is the dark twin to the famed Angel Flower vineyard — a companion block producing Pinot Noir of darker fruit, wild aromatics and firm mineral structure. Farmed biodynamically and vinified with minimal intervention, Earth Smoke embodies Pyramid Valley’s pursuit of purity and place — balancing intensity with ethereal elegance. Triple critical acclaim — 96 points Halliday Wine Companion, 96 points Decanter Magazine, 95 points The Wine Front — confirming Earth Smoke as one of New Zealand’s true vinous treasures.
Vineyard & Winemaking
From the Earth Smoke block — the companion to the famed Angel Flower vineyard — this site produces Pinot Noir of darker fruit, wild aromatics and firm mineral structure. Farmed biodynamically and vinified with minimal intervention — wild ferment, gentle extraction and ageing in fine French oak — this is purity and terroir in their truest form. The limestone and clay soils of North Canterbury lend natural tension, minerality and longevity to the wine.
