Classic Mornington Peninsula Chardonnay | Power, Texture & Mineral Precision
A beautifully complete Chardonnay — generous enough to be immediately delicious, yet driven by the acidity, minerality and structure to develop beautifully in bottle.
At an RRP of just:
$45
this is exactly the sort of Australian Chardonnay that massively over-delivers.
95 Points – Halliday Wine Companion
The 2024 Paringa Estate Chardonnay shows exactly why the Mornington Peninsula has become one of Australia's benchmark regions for Chardonnay.
There's richness here.
There's texture.
There's oak.
But underneath everything is a wonderful line of freshness and mineral energy.
Think:
Ripe Peach
Fresh Pear
Grapefruit & Lemon Zest
Roasted Nuts
Flint & Steel
Saline Minerality
Fine French Oak
This isn't thin, skeletal Chardonnay.
Nor is it old-fashioned, buttery Chardonnay.
It's powerful, sophisticated and beautifully balanced.
95 Points – The R Review
Stuart Knox awarded the wine:
95 POINTS
and his review gets straight to the heart of it.
He found ripe peach, roasted nuts and flinty mineral aromatics, followed by a bright, powerful palate of peach, lemon zest and creamy nougat.
Most importantly, he praises the length and the way the acidity drives the wine without ever becoming intrusive.
That's the key to this wine.
It has richness.
But it also has drive.
94 Points – The Wine Front
Campbell Mattinson awarded the 2024:
94 POINTS
and sees serious longevity here.
His review highlights grapefruit, grilled peach, flint, steel, cedar and juicy pear, describing the wine as direct, linear and complex with exceptional length.
And his assessment of its ageing potential is particularly compelling.
This is built to develop.
It's slightly tight and linear now, but there's plenty underneath waiting to emerge.
Tasting Notes
Appearance: Bright straw-gold with youthful green highlights.
Aroma: Immediately complex. Ripe peach, white nectarine and fresh pear combine with citrus, roasted nuts and a distinctive struck-flint character. Fine oak adds spice and another layer of complexity.
Palate: Powerful yet beautifully controlled. Peach and nectarine give the wine flesh, while grapefruit and lemon zest provide freshness. A creamy nougat-like texture sits through the middle before fine acidity pulls everything into focus.
Texture: One of the strengths of the wine. There's genuine weight and generosity, but the acidity and saline mineral character prevent it from ever becoming heavy.
Finish: Long, fine and beautifully detailed, with citrus, stone fruit, flint and subtle nutty oak complexity continuing well after the wine leaves the palate.
This tastes like serious Mornington Chardonnay.
Mornington Peninsula – Chardonnay Country
The Mornington Peninsula has become one of Australia's great homes for Chardonnay.
Its cool maritime climate gives Chardonnay the opportunity to ripen slowly while retaining the natural acidity required for genuinely fine wine.
And the best Mornington Chardonnay manages to combine two seemingly opposite qualities:
Generosity + Tension
You get the ripe stone fruit.
But you also get citrus.
You get texture.
But you also get acidity.
You get oak complexity.
But you still taste the vineyard.
The 2024 Paringa Estate Chardonnay sits beautifully in that territory.
Estate Vineyard + Callanan's Road
The fruit for the 2024 comes from Paringa Estate's:
Estate Vineyard
and
Callanan's Road Vineyard.
The fruit was:
Hand picked
then:
Whole-bunch pressed
before the unclarified juice was fermented in French oak puncheons, with approximately:
35% New Oak.
The wine was then stirred monthly in barrel to build weight, texture and complexity.
That's serious Chardonnay winemaking.
But importantly, the oak doesn't overwhelm the fruit.
Instead it gives you those gorgeous notes of:
Roasted nuts
Nougat
Cedar
Spice
while the acidity and fruit remain firmly in control.
Another 94 Points – Wine Advocate
There's even more critical support for the wine.
Erin Larkin awarded it:
93 Points – The Wine Advocate
describing a Chardonnay with concentration and intensity, saline acidity, flowers and salted-nut complexity while still maintaining restraint.
And the wine has also received:
94 Points – Decanter
94 Points – Wine Enthusiast
94 Points – Wine Pilot
That's an impressive level of agreement.

- 94 Points – The Wine Front
- 94 Points – Decanter

This isn't one critic having a particularly good day with the wine.
There's serious consensus around the quality of the 2024.
Paringa Estate – A Mornington Peninsula Pioneer
Paringa Estate is one of the established names of the Mornington Peninsula.
The estate was founded by Lindsay McCall in 1985, with the first vines planted on the property that year.
Today Lindsay works alongside his son Jamie McCall, continuing the estate's focus on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay alongside its celebrated cool-climate Shiraz.
There's decades of experience behind this bottle.
And it shows.
The Value Is the Killer
This is the part that makes the wine particularly attractive.
You're telling me the RRP is:
$45.
Yet current Australian listings for the 2024 Estate Chardonnay are commonly around $50–$55, with some sources citing an RRP considerably higher.
So at $45, this becomes a very easy proposition.
You're getting serious Mornington Peninsula Chardonnay with:
Hand-picked fruit
Whole-bunch pressing
French oak puncheon fermentation
35% new oak
Multiple 94–95 point reviews
for less than fifty dollars.
That's excellent buying.

Or simply give it a large Chardonnay glass and watch it open.
Cellaring
Don't assume the generosity means this is only a drink-now Chardonnay.
Campbell Mattinson specifically sees significant ageing potential, and current retailer guidance puts the wine comfortably into the mid-2030s.
I'd happily drink it now with some air.
But I'd also love to see this after:
3–7 years in bottle.
The acidity and fruit intensity are there.
