Grace, depth, and balance in perfect harmony — world-class Blewitt Springs Shiraz

97 points Halliday Wine Companion 97 points Wine Pilot 96 points The Real Review

Single-Vineyard Blewitt Springs Shiraz | Elegance, Depth & Distinction

“A breathtakingly pure expression of Blewitt Springs Shiraz — lifted, graceful, and deeply resonant. One of the great modern Australian reds.”

Tasting Notes

Appearance: Deep crimson with violet edges — luminous yet darkly alluring.
Aroma: Intensely perfumed with layers of black cherry, plum, and blueberry interwoven with hints of violet, graphite, anise, and fine spice. Subtle oak notes frame the fruit without intrusion.
Palate: Medium to full-bodied, perfectly weighted, and gorgeously textured. The fruit glides seamlessly across a core of chalky tannins, revealing depth and tension. Notes of dark berries, cocoa, and crushed rock unfold in precise harmony.
Finish: Long, elegant, and finely etched — a finish that lingers with power, polish, and mineral drive.

Vineyard & Winemaking

The MMAD Vineyard — an iconic Blewitt Springs site planted in 1941 — sits atop deep sandy soils over ironstone, producing Shiraz of rare perfume and purity.
Managed by the acclaimed Shaw + Smith, Tolpuddle, and Ashton Hills team, this vineyard has quickly become one of Australia’s most celebrated single sites.

Fruit is hand-picked and wild-fermented in small open vats, with gentle extraction and maturation in fine French oak puncheons (25% new) for 10 months.
No fining or filtration — just unadulterated vineyard expression.

Region

Blewitt Springs, McLaren Vale (South Australia) — a subregion famed for its elevated sites, sandy soils, and cool maritime influence.
These conditions yield wines of lift, precision, and long, graceful tannins — hallmarks of the MMAD house style.

Food Pairings

  • Chargrilled eye fillet with peppercorn sauce

  • Lamb shoulder with rosemary and thyme

  • Wild mushroom and truffle risotto

  • Roast duck with star anise glaze

  • Aged cheddar or Comté
