95points Halliday Wine Companion | 95 points The Wine Front

Single-Vineyard Mornington Peninsula Pinot Noir | Purity, Grace & Power

"A breathtaking single-vineyard Pinot Noir of elegance and depth — the purest expression of Merricks' soul."

Tasting Notes

Appearance: Deep ruby with crimson hues, shimmering with clarity and intensity.

Aroma: A stunning perfume of wild strawberry, red cherry, and raspberry intertwined with rose petal, dried herbs, and subtle spice. Fine oak adds nuance of sandalwood and cedar.

Palate: Silky and finely structured — layers of red fruit glide across the palate with mineral tension and savoury complexity. The tannins are ultra-fine, bringing both texture and precision.

Finish: Long, graceful, and ethereal — the essence of purity and poise, with a lingering resonance of red fruit, spice, and gentle earthiness.

Vineyard & Winemaking

The Merricks Vineyard on the Mornington Peninsula is one of Australia's most exceptional Pinot Noir sites. Planted on ancient, free-draining volcanic soils, it produces fruit of extraordinary intensity and aromatic lift.

The grapes are hand-picked, fermented with indigenous yeasts (30% whole bunch), and aged for 11 months in French oak (35% new). Minimal intervention allows the vineyard's natural energy and precision to shine through, delivering a wine of remarkable balance and longevity.

Region

Mornington Peninsula, Victoria — a region that consistently produces some of Australia's most sophisticated Pinot Noir. The combination of cool maritime climate, long growing season, and ancient volcanic soils results in wines of structure, perfume, and power wrapped in elegance.

Food Pairings

  • Roast duck breast with cherry glaze
  • Grilled quail with wild mushrooms
  • Seared salmon or tuna with soy and ginger
  • Truffle risotto or wild mushroom pasta
  • Soft-rind cheeses such as Brie or Taleggio
