Concentration. Richness. Perfume. Structure. Balance. And extraordinary length.
The 2021 Lienert Vineyards Dos Bros Shiraz delivers all of that.
And what makes this wine particularly interesting is the story behind it.
Two brothers.
John Lienert – the grape grower.
James Lienert – the winemaker.
Together, they're the Dos Bros.
The wine comes from a single vineyard that the brothers regard as one of their finest.
And the result?

-
Lilac and purple flowers
-
Star anise and clove
-
Black pepper and exotic spice
-
Cedarwood and vanilla
-

Earthy, savoury complexity
The palate is wonderfully generous.
There's an enormous core of dark berry fruit, but this isn't simply a big, sweet Barossa Shiraz.
The fruit is framed by beautifully integrated oak, firm but polished tannins and a savoury, earthy complexity.
The finish is long, powerful and beautifully structured.
Rich. Plush. Spicy. Savoury. Structured.
This is serious Shiraz.
Critical Acclaim
95 Points – Ray Jordan
Ray Jordan was particularly impressed by the wine's structure and balance.
He highlighted the dark plum fruit, chalky, grainy texture, excellent tannins and beautifully integrated oak.
Despite the concentration, the wine retains an impressive sense of poise.
Jordan considers it a medium-to-full-bodied Shiraz with tremendous flavour intensity and a long, driving finish.
His cellaring recommendation: 15 years.
93+ Points – Campbell Mattinson
Campbell Mattinson describes a muscular and concentrated Shiraz built around ripe blackberry fruit, earth, roasted spice, cedar and vanilla cream.
Importantly, he sees considerable potential for further development.
The 93+ score reflects a wine with serious structure and the capacity to improve with bottle age.
93 Points – Ned Goodwin MW, JamesSuckling.com
Ned Goodwin found an impressive combination of boysenberry, lilac, star anise, clove, pepper and smoked charcuterie.
What makes his assessment particularly interesting is the balance between generosity and freshness.
There's plenty of fruit and texture, but the wine remains energetic, composed and beautifully persistent.
92 Points – Ken Gargett, Wine Pilot
Ken Gargett also recognised the wine's potential for further development.
Four respected critics.
Four excellent reviews.
And one outstanding single-vineyard Barossa Shiraz.
The Dos Bros – John and James Lienert
The name isn't simply clever marketing.
It's the story of two brothers who understand their vineyard from completely different but complementary perspectives.
John Lienert is the grape grower.
He understands the land, the vines, the seasons and the fruit.
James Lienert is the winemaker.
He understands how to take that fruit and turn it into something extraordinary.
James has an impressive winemaking background, including experience at Penfolds, Two Hands and overseas.
Together, the brothers have built Lienert Vineyards into an exciting small Barossa producer focused on vineyard character and serious wine quality.
And Dos Bros is one of their standout wines.
Single-Vineyard Shiraz
One of the most important things about this wine is its origin.
It comes from a single vineyard.
Not a blend of fruit sourced from all over the Barossa.
Not a generic regional Shiraz.
A specific vineyard selected by the brothers for its exceptional quality.
That's important because the best single-vineyard wines offer something beyond varietal character.
They express a particular piece of land.
The Lienert family has spent decades developing its vineyards along the western side of the Barossa Valley.
And that experience shows in the finished wine.
There's concentration and generosity, certainly.
But there's also fine structure, savoury detail and impressive freshness.
The Outstanding 2021 Vintage
The 2021 Barossa vintage has become particularly highly regarded for the combination of fruit concentration, freshness and balance it produced.
And Dos Bros captures that beautifully.
This is a wine with serious flavour intensity.
But it isn't clumsy.
It isn't excessively sweet.
And it doesn't rely on enormous oak or alcohol to make an impression.
At 14.5% alcohol, it has the richness you'd expect from Barossa Shiraz, with the structure and freshness required for long-term ageing.
Power and elegance in the same bottle.
That's the combination we're looking for.
A Shiraz Built for the Cellar
This is another reason the 2021 Dos Bros is such an exciting wine.
It's already had several years of bottle development.
But the critics are clear that this wine has plenty of life ahead.
Ray Jordan suggests 15 years of cellaring potential.
Campbell Mattinson also sees a wine that should continue developing for years.
And Ken Gargett believes the wine deserves additional time before reaching its best.
Suggested drinking window: 2026–2036+.
If you're opening a bottle now, give it a generous decant.
An hour or two should allow the fruit, spice and savoury complexity to open beautifully.
But I'd also be putting some away.
Food Pairings
This is built for seriously good food.
Perfect with:
-
Chargrilled rib-eye steak
-
Slow-roasted lamb shoulder
-
Beef short ribs
-
Beef cheeks
-
Venison
-
Barbecued beef
-
Mushroom ragù
-
Aged cheddar
-
Parmigiano Reggiano
Personally, I'd be reaching for a great steak.
A bottle of Dos Bros.
And a big glass.
Why We Love It
Because this is exactly what we want from modern Barossa Shiraz.
There's richness.
There's concentration.
There's power.
But there's also perfume, spice, savoury complexity and beautifully managed tannins.
And look at the pedigree.
