2024 Heroes Vineyard Yeowarra Hill Pinot Noir – Otway Hinterland

Another cracking Pinot from James Thomas and Heroes Vineyard, one of the most exciting emerging producers in Victoria.

The Yeowarra Hill vineyard was planted in 1999 and is now managed by Heroes. The wine combines beautiful red and black fruits, bramble, thyme, nutmeg and spice, with fine tannins and lovely cool-climate freshness.

Halliday's Philip Rich has praised the Yeowarra Hill Pinot for its combination of fruit, spice, herbs and svelte tannin. Heroes is a producer firmly on our radar.

2025 Bellvale Pinot Noir – Gippsland

Gippsland continues to be one of Victoria's great hunting grounds for Pinot Noir.

Bellvale delivers the sort of bright red fruit, perfume, savoury complexity and freshness that makes good cool-climate Pinot so ridiculously drinkable.

It's a beautiful counterpoint to some of the more powerful wines in this pack and another reminder that you don't need to spend $70–$100 to find genuinely exciting Victorian Pinot.

2025 Medhurst Yarra Valley Pinot Noir – Yarra Valley

This might be the steal within the steal.

Made entirely from Medhurst Estate fruit from 24-year-old vines, this is absolutely loaded with Morello cherry, pomegranate, black raspberry, blood orange, rosehip and spice.

There's concentration and power, but the wine remains beautifully energetic with plush, silky tannins and fine acidity.

Halliday's Philip Rich awarded it an outstanding:

96 POINTS

calling it fleshy and energetic with fine silky tannins and noting that Medhurst's Pinot Noir is in terrific form.

2025 Onannon Pinot Noir – Mornington Peninsula

Onannon has developed a serious reputation for beautifully composed Mornington Peninsula Pinot Noir.

Think red cherry, cranberry, spice, fine acidity, gentle tannins and subtle savoury complexity — Pinot built around finesse rather than sheer weight.

It's exactly the sort of Pinot that makes Mornington Peninsula so compelling: fragrant, detailed, savoury and incredibly easy to drink.

 

2025 Fighting Gully Road Pinot Noir – Beechworth

Then we head up into the elevated vineyards of Beechworth and one of Australia's most respected viticulturists, Mark Walpole.

The Fighting Gully Road Pinot vineyard was planted in 1998 on elevated north-east-facing slopes at around 570 metres above sea level.

That altitude gives the wine beautiful freshness and precision.

Expect ripe berries, savoury spice, fine acidity and beautifully shaped tannins.

This is proper high-country Victorian Pinot.

2025 Bannockburn 1314 Pinot Noir – Geelong

And we finish with one of the great names of Victorian Pinot Noir.

Bannockburn.

The 2025 1314 Pinot Noir is a fantastic introduction to the distinctive Bannockburn style — cherry, raspberry, earth, undergrowth and spice, with juicy fruit and wonderfully slinky tannins.

Campbell Mattinson gave it:

and summed it up beautifully: this has Bannockburn written all over it.
