Six Brilliant Chardonnays. Three Great Victorian Regions. One Ridiculously Good Mixed Pack.

Yarra Valley | Otway Hinterland | Mornington Peninsula

If Chardonnay is your thing, this is one hell of a six-pack.

We've brought together six outstanding Victorian Chardonnays from some of the state's most exciting producers and cool-climate vineyards — and every single bottle has an RRP between just $40 and $55.

That's becoming increasingly difficult to find.

Because serious Australian Chardonnay isn't cheap anymore.

These wines prove you can still find exceptional Chardonnay without spending $70, $80 or $100 a bottle.

Six producers.

Three brilliant cool-climate regions.

Six completely different expressions of Chardonnay.

Combined RRP $276

2024 Giant Steps Yarra Valley Chardonnay – Yarra Valley

RRP $40 | 95 Halliday | 94 JamesSuckling.com | 93+ Wine Front

What a way to start.

Giant Steps has become one of the benchmark names for modern Yarra Valley Chardonnay, with winemaker Melanie Chester producing wines of beautiful precision, energy and regional expression.

The Yarra Valley Chardonnay brings together fruit from multiple vineyard sites across the region, giving you a brilliant snapshot of contemporary Yarra Chardonnay.

Expect white peach, nectarine, grapefruit and citrus, with subtle struck-match complexity, fine acidity and beautifully controlled oak.

Giant Steps Chardonnay for $40.

That's an extremely easy inclusion in this pack.

2025 The Wanderer Yellingbo Chardonnay – Yarra Valley

RRP $43 | 95+ Halliday | 94 Wine Front

One of the more under-the-radar wines in the pack — and that's exactly why we love finding wines like this.

The Wanderer is the personal label of Andrew Marks, one of the Yarra Valley's most experienced winemakers.

The Yellingbo Chardonnay comes from the cooler Upper Yarra area and delivers the sort of citrus, white stone fruit, mineral drive, savoury complexity and fine acidity that makes Upper Yarra Chardonnay so compelling.

There's beautiful restraint here.

Fine. Precise. Mineral. Seriously drinkable.

At $43, this is exactly the sort of Chardonnay discovery we want in a pack called The Great Victorian Chardonnay Steal.

🥂 2025 Warramate Chardonnay – Yarra Valley

RRP $45 | 95 points Halliday Wine Companion

Another cracking Yarra Valley Chardonnay.

Warramate sits in one of the great pieces of Yarra Valley wine country, neighbouring some seriously famous vineyards.

This is Chardonnay built around freshness, citrus, stone fruit and fine acidity, with enough texture and savoury complexity to give it genuine interest.

It's polished without being overworked.

Rich enough to satisfy Chardonnay lovers, but fresh enough that you'll very quickly find yourself pouring the second glass.

Another seriously smart buy at $45.

🥂 2025 Heroes Yeowarra Hill Chardonnay – Otway Hinterland

RRP $43 | New Release | A Star in the making

Now things get particularly interesting.

James Thomas and Heroes Vineyard are rapidly becoming one of the most exciting stories in Victorian Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

The Yeowarra Hill vineyard sits in the incredibly cool Otway Hinterland, where long, slow ripening allows Chardonnay to develop flavour while retaining brilliant natural acidity.

The result is a beautifully cool-climate expression with citrus, white peach, stone fruit, mineral characters and subtle savoury complexity.

Heroes is absolutely flying.

And this gives you a chance to see why for just $43.

2024 Paringa Estate 'Estate' Chardonnay – Mornington Peninsula

RRP $55 | 95 Points Halliday Wine Companion | 95 Points The Real Review | 94 Points The Wine Front

One of the absolute stars of the pack.

This is proper Mornington Peninsula Chardonnay.

The 2024 Estate comes from Paringa Estate and Callanan's Road vineyard fruit, with hand-picked grapes whole-bunch pressed before fermentation in French oak puncheons.

Expect ripe peach, lemon zest, white stone fruit, roasted nuts, flint and saline minerality, wrapped around beautifully integrated acidity.

Stuart Knox awarded it 95 points for The Real Review, while Campbell Mattinson gave it 94 points for The Wine Front and noted that the wine should live and mature beautifully for years.

Power + Texture + Mineral Precision.

At $55, this is a hell of a lot of Mornington Peninsula Chardonnay.

2025 Gaffy & Neal Mornington Peninsula Chardonnay – Mornington Peninsula

RRP $50 | 95 Halliday | 95 The Real Review | 95 Jeremy Oliver | 95 Tim White

And then there's this.

Four critics. Four 95-point scores.

The 2025 Gaffy & Neal Mornington Peninsula Chardonnay has been one of our great Chardonnay discoveries.

It combines Meyer lemon, grapefruit, yellow peach and stone fruit with hazelnut, subtle oak, salty sea-breeze characters and mouthwatering citrus acidity.

There's generosity.

There's texture.

There's oak.

But critically, there's enough acidity and mineral freshness to keep everything beautifully controlled.

And then look at the critical response:

95 Points – Halliday Wine Companion

95 Points – The Real Review

95 Points – Jeremy Oliver

95 Points – Tim White

For a Chardonnay with an RRP of $50.

That's ridiculous.

And it gets even more interesting when you look at the man behind it.

Doug Neal has an extraordinary history with great Australian Chardonnay, including decades working alongside Rick Kinzbrunner at Giaconda.

You can taste that experience here.

This may be the steal within The Steal.

Three Regions. Six Expressions of Chardonnay.

This is what makes the pack so much fun.

You're travelling through three of Victoria's great Chardonnay landscapes:

Yarra Valley

Giant Steps
The Wanderer
Warramate

Otway Hinterland

Heroes Vineyard

Mornington Peninsula

Paringa Estate
Gaffy & Neal

And they're not six versions of the same wine.

You'll find:

Lemon & grapefruit

White peach & nectarine

Flint & mineral characters

Saline freshness

Hazelnut & roasted nuts

Beautifully controlled French oak

Fine cool-climate acidity

Creamy, textural palates

That's the beauty of Victorian Chardonnay right now.

The quality is extraordinary, but the styles and regional expressions can be completely different.

Why We Love This Pack

The quality of Australian Chardonnay has never been better.

Unfortunately, the prices of the best wines have climbed with it.

It's increasingly normal to see serious Victorian Chardonnay at:

$70. $80. $100. And considerably more.

That's why this pack excites us.

Every bottle here retails between:

$40–$55.

Yet you're getting wines from Giant Steps, Paringa Estate, Gaffy & Neal, Heroes, The Wanderer and Warramate.

There are famous names.

There are emerging stars.

There are tiny producers.

And there are some absolutely cracking critic scores.

But most importantly:

There isn't a passenger in the pack.

This is exactly the sort of six-pack we'd want to put on the table for a blind Victorian Chardonnay tasting.

Open all six.

Get some good glasses.

And work your way through the Yarra Valley, Otway Hinterland and Mornington Peninsula.

You'll quickly see why Victorian Chardonnay is in such an extraordinary place right now.

Six cracking Victorian Chardonnays. Combined RRP $276.

That's why we've called it The Great Victorian Chardonnay Steal.

👉 If Chardonnay is your thing, this is an absolute no-brainer mixed six-pack — six outstanding wines, three brilliant regions and a fantastic snapshot of just how good Victorian Chardonnay has become.
