Exceptional Premier Cru Burgundy | Perfume, Silk & Finesse
“A captivating Chambolle-Musigny — perfumed red fruits, florals and spice wrapped in silky tannins, mineral freshness and extraordinary finesse.”
Tasting Notes
Appearance: Brilliant ruby-red with youthful crimson highlights and beautiful clarity.
Aroma: Intensely perfumed with raspberry, wild strawberry and red cherry, followed by rose petals, peony, sweet spice and subtle smoky complexity.
Palate: Silky, pure and wonderfully detailed. Red berry fruit flows through a finely structured palate with delicate spice and mineral complexity. The tannins are beautifully polished, while fresh acidity provides energy and definition.
Finish: Long, refined and persistent, with red fruit, florals, spice and a saline mineral edge lingering beautifully.
Faiveley's style for Les Charmes is deliberately elegant and aromatic, reflecting the vineyard's relatively low-clay, pebbly soils. The wine is matured for 16 months in French oak, with approximately 40–50% new barrels.
Critical Acclaim – 2023 Vintage
- 95 Points – The Wine Advocate
The 2023 vintage produced particularly supple and sensual red Burgundies, with Faiveley's Premier Crus receiving around 50% new oak during élevage.
This is serious Burgundy from a vineyard and producer combination capable of delivering extraordinary Pinot Noir.
Les Charmes – One of Chambolle-Musigny's Great Premier Crus
This is where things get particularly exciting.
Les Charmes
sits in the heart of Chambolle-Musigny, one of the Côte de Nuits' most revered villages for Pinot Noir.
Faiveley's parcel is ideally positioned in the centre of the village, between the legendary Musigny and Bonnes-Mares Grand Crus. Its southeast-facing exposition and relatively low-clay, pebbly soils contribute to a wine that Faiveley describes as:
Charming • Subtle • Delicate • Elegant • Aromatically Fine.
That's almost the perfect description of what great Chambolle-Musigny should be.
Why Chambolle-Musigny Is So Special
If Gevrey-Chambertin is famous for power and Nuits-Saint-Georges for structure, Chambolle-Musigny is renowned for something different:
Finesse.
Great Chambolle can be hauntingly aromatic.
Think:
Raspberry • Wild Strawberry • Cherry • Rose • Violet • Spice • Mineral
Then there's the texture.
Silky rather than muscular.
Fine rather than imposing.
Perfumed rather than powerful.
But don't mistake finesse for lack of intensity.
The greatest Chambolle-Musignys can have extraordinary concentration beneath that delicate exterior.
And Les Charmes is one of the village's benchmark Premier Cru sites.
Vineyard & Winemaking
The wine is:
100% Pinot Noir
from Faiveley's Les Charmes parcel in Chambolle-Musigny.
Unlike many Côte de Nuits vineyards, the soils here contain very little clay, with only small traces through the pebbly surface layer. This contributes to the vineyard's lighter, more delicate and aromatic personality.
The wine is matured for approximately:
16 months in French oak
with:
40–50% new oak
and the remainder in second-fill barrels.
The result is a wine that combines the depth expected of Premier Cru Burgundy with the silky tannins and aromatic finesse that define Chambolle-Musigny.
Domaine Faiveley
Few Burgundy producers possess the history and vineyard holdings of Domaine Faiveley.
Founded in 1825, Faiveley has evolved enormously in recent decades, combining its extraordinary collection of vineyards with increasingly precise vineyard management and winemaking.
Under Erwan Faiveley, the wines have moved towards greater purity, openness and finesse, while retaining the structure and longevity historically associated with the domaine.
It's one of the reasons Faiveley is so compelling today.
You get:
Historic Burgundy pedigree
combined with
modern precision.
The 2023 Vintage
The 2023 growing season wasn't straightforward.
Faiveley's Jérôme Flous described a season that swung between cool conditions and significant heat, with temperatures above 30°C during harvest. The domaine's ability to cool harvested fruit became particularly important.
The resulting reds averaged around 13.5% alcohol, with good volumes and a style described by Wine Advocate's William Kelley as supple and sensual.
For a village built around perfume and finesse, that's an exciting vintage profile.
Region
Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru, Côte de Nuits, Burgundy, France
There are few Pinot Noir addresses more famous than Chambolle-Musigny.
The village sits among some extraordinary neighbours in the Côte de Nuits, yet its wines have a personality all their own.
Where other villages can emphasise power and tannin, Chambolle is about:
Perfume • Florals • Silky Texture • Mineral Freshness • Finesse
And Les Charmes takes those characteristics and adds genuine Premier Cru depth.
This is Burgundy about beauty rather than brute force.

This is exactly the style of Burgundy that explains why people become obsessed with Pinot Noir.
Not enormous.
Not heavy.
Not trying to overwhelm you.
