A masterclass in poise and perfume — Ata Rangi at its most refined

96 points The Real Review | 96 points JamesSuckling.com

Single-Vineyard Martinborough Pinot Noir | Grace, Precision & Depth

“A stunning single-vineyard Pinot Noir from the legends of Ata Rangi — pure, poised, and profoundly expressive.”

Tasting Notes

Appearance: Vibrant ruby-red with brilliant clarity and garnet hues at the rim.
Aroma: Intense and perfumed — wild strawberry, red cherry, and cranberry mingle with rose petal, spice, and subtle forest floor notes. Fine French oak adds a whisper of cedar and vanilla.
Palate: Medium-bodied with a silken, layered texture. Bright red fruits lead into savoury undertones of truffle, herbs, and mineral spice. The tannins are ultra-fine and beautifully integrated, giving length and drive.
Finish: Long, elegant, and harmonious — a seamless flow of fruit, spice, and earthy nuance that lingers with finesse.

Vineyard & Winemaking

The Kotinga Vineyard sits just north of Ata Rangi’s home block in Martinborough, on the region’s prized gravel terrace soils. Its north-facing exposure and meticulous viticulture yield fruit of vibrant intensity and purity.

Hand-harvested and fermented with native yeasts (30% whole bunch), the wine is matured in fine-grained French oak (35% new) for 11 months before bottling unfined and unfiltered.

This minimal-intervention approach allows Kotinga’s distinctive site character to shine — elegant yet powerful, with the unmistakable Ata Rangi signature of balance and restraint.

Region

Martinborough, New Zealand — globally renowned for Pinot Noir that blends Old World elegance with New World clarity. The gravelly soils and cool maritime climate create wines of perfume, structure, and longevity.

Food Pairings

  • Duck confit with cherry glaze

  • Seared venison with juniper and thyme

  • Truffle and porcini risotto

  • Roast chicken with sage and garlic butter

  • Washed-rind cheeses like Taleggio or Époisses
